1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Free Car Tax MOT Check, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of these Terms, please do not use our service.
These Terms may be updated as the service develops — see Section 9 for how changes are handled.
2. Service Description
Free Car Tax MOT Check provides a free UK vehicle check tool. Today, this includes:
- Vehicle make, colour, fuel type and engine size
- Tax status and due date
- MOT status, expiry date and full MOT test history
- CO2 emissions and first registration date
This data is sourced directly from the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) and DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) public data APIs. We're also developing paid report tiers with additional checks — see Section 4.
3. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the service only for legitimate, lawful purposes. You agree not to:
Technical Abuse
- • Use automated tools or scripts to scrape or bulk-query the service
- • Attempt to hack, disrupt or overwhelm our systems
- • Reverse engineer or attempt to extract our source code
Content & Data Misuse
- • Reproduce or republish our content without permission
- • Use the service for any unlawful purpose, including fraud or harassment
- • Resell or commercialise results obtained from the free check
Violation of these terms may result in your access to the service being restricted.
4. Future Paid Services
We're developing paid report tiers (Plus, Pro, Complete) offering deeper checks such as outstanding finance, stolen vehicle and write-off records. These are not yet available to purchase. When they launch, full pricing, refund and payment terms specific to those services will be published here and on our pricing page before you can buy anything.
5. Data Accuracy & Disclaimer
Important Disclaimer
We display data retrieved live from the DVLA and DVSA. While these are official government sources, we don't control their data and can't guarantee it is always complete, current or error-free.
5.1 Your Responsibility

- ⚠You should conduct your own independent verification before making any purchasing decision about a vehicle
- ⚠We recommend a professional mechanical inspection for any used vehicle
5.2 Reporting Inaccuracies
If you believe information shown is inaccurate, it's worth double-checking directly on GOV.UK, since we display the same underlying data. You can also let us know via our contact form.
6. Intellectual Property
The design, text, graphics and compilation of this website are protected by copyright. Vehicle data itself is sourced from public government APIs and is not our proprietary content.
You may access and use the website for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not reproduce, scrape or republish our content without permission.
7. Limitation of Liability
7.1 Service Provided "As Is"
Our service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
7.2 No Liability for Indirect Damages
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:
- •Indirect, incidental or consequential damages
- •Damages arising from a decision made based on our free check
- •Service interruptions, errors or inaccuracies in data sourced from third parties (DVLA/DVSA)
7.3 Exceptions
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded under UK law. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected.
8. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as the service develops, particularly once paid report tiers launch.
- • Updated Terms are posted on this page with a new "Last Updated" date
- • Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance
